Interbiblio operates at several interfaces between libraries, literacy promotion, schools, early education, literature and culture as well as integration. The members of the board, secretariat and libraries maintain personal contacts and exchange with the relevant institutions.



Interbiblio is member of Bibliosuisse and maintains contacts with Bibliomedia Schweiz, in particular with the Bibliocenter in Solothurn, which has holdings in the most important migration languages of Switzerland as well as offering other intercultural services.

Interbiblio is also one of the project initiators of Mondomedia - offene Bibliotheken. The Mondomedia team - among them employees from several Interbiblio member libraries - conducts courses on intercultural library work as part of the Bibliosuisse certificate courses (formerly SAB basic training courses)


Interbiblio pursues the activities of the IFLA sections Libraries for children and young adults and Library services to multicultural populations and takes part in IFLA meetings with lectures.


Literacy promotion

Interbiblio maintains contact with the Swiss Institute for Child and Youth Media (SIKJM) and maintains a professional exchange of projects with it: Schenk mir ein Geschichte / 1001 Histoires, Versdatenbank and Buchstart / Né pour lire / Nati per leggere (SIKJM and Bibliomedia Schweiz)


School / HSK

Interbiblio follows the activities of the teacher-training colleges, the cantonal education authorities and the EDK in the field of intercultural pedagogy and informs its members about publications and projects.


Interbiblio is a member of the Community Interest Group Erstsprache (IGE) – First Language – and is committed to improving the framework of the HSK (Homeland Language and Culture) teaching. In this context Interbiblio also maintains the website hsk-info.


Early childhood promotion and education

Interbiblio is in contact with the Swiss Unesco Commission for Early Childhood Education, the Marie Meierhofer Institute for the Child MMI and the Child-Care Network.


Literature and culture

Interbiblio maintains an exchange with the central secretariat of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) in Basel and its members sections around the world. Interbiblio provides its member libraries with the IBBY-Honour list catalogue of recommended children's and youth books from many countries and in many languages.


Interbiblio is also in contact with Baobabbooks, the Centre for the Promotion of Cultural Diversity in Children's Literature.


Interbiblio collaborates with the Schulhausromans team and the JULL literary laboratory in the project Schreibinsel.


Migration – Integration

Interbiblio maintains personal contacts with representatives of the Federal Commission on Migration FCM

Many member libraries are financially supported by their cantonal integration departments.

Contacts also exist with the Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies SFM.
